Mile 8.47 at McDonald Rd. I took a picture of a sign showing Albany 182 miles and Buffalo 170 miles in the other direction. When we were in Jordan our total mileage was a little over 170. Pretty close. So…182 more miles to Albany. Piece of cake.

We have gone past two trees with make-shift ladders going up to a seat/perch and I’m guessing it’s for bird watching. I doubt they hunt in this area along the canal.

Mileage 11.15 – we think we are in Memphis. 12:30 p.m. and we’re behind schedule again, but we’ve got an easy day. We are looking at the old canal which is not very wide, hardly any water in it. Maybe 50 feet across? This is why they had to build the barge canal to handle bigger boats.

An information board in Memphis tells about boat families and mentions a book by Richard Garrity, “Canal Boatmen.” I will see if the library has this.

A section of pathway in Memphis is a shared road. It is very bumpy with lots of water filled holes. It’s really bad. Not fun at all.
