This is how you dry your socks when bike touring.

Breakfast was fresh fruit followed by pancakes and bacon. We are on our way at 8:50, traveling the sidewalk since the morning traffic is heavy and fast. We went to Rite Aid, on the other side of the bridge, for more tubes of pain cream – we should have bought stock in this stuff. I think this is where Kathy bought the heat pads and the knee brace. After checking the air in our tires and lubing our chains we’re ready to go.

The day is sunny and bright and forecast to stay that way with a high of 76°. Just starting off, it’s chilly except when we are in the sun. The mileage as we get back on the bike path is 1.48. The path itself is hard packed dirt with stone dust. In many ways it’s better than paved because there are no root heaves. However, the stone dust creates a lot more drag on the tires than pavement would, so we are working a little harder. One plus is that we are totally off-road and don’t have to worry about these crazy New York driver—especially truck drivers!

To all of Kathy’s American Legion friends who busted her so bad…her derriere does not hurt and this is day 3. Everything else hurts, but not her ………!

At the 10-mile mark we saw another deer off to the side and it just stared at us. Never moved.
